Honda Powered BMW

This 1981 BMW 320i is being built as a fun sunny day car for occasional track use. The heart of the project is a modified Honda K24 which is attached to a Mazda RX8 transmission.

As this conversion has never been done it was an opportunity to flex problem solving and fabrication skills. Using a combination of traced perspective canvases and iPhone based 3D scanning I modeled the custom engine and transmission mounts as well as several other components before cutting them on my plasma table, bending them and welding them.

This project is still in progress with the next major undertaking involving fitting a late model BMW differential in the original rear subframe.
